Seacoast Online on Susan CollinsWELLS, Maine — U.S. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine, was in town Monday to highlight her proposed legislation to establish a national mercury monitoring program.

Collins discussed her system in light of the results of a research study showing that mercury levels in sparrows at New England wildlife refuges had increased to unacceptably high levels. Laudholm Farm, the site of Collins' visit, is one of those refuges.

"The new findings add to the compelling evidence that we need a comprehensive mercury monitoring program," Collins said. "We must have more information and more information soon, or we risk making misguided policy decisions." ...Read more >>
