First Senate Candidate to File Paperwork This Year

BANGOR, Maine – The Collins for Senator campaign today submitted nominating petitions with the Maine Secretary of State’s office. The petition signatures were formally accepted and filed by the Secretary’s office, officially placing Senator Collins’ name on the ballot.

Collins is the first candidate for U.S. Senate in Maine to qualify for the ballot this cycle. Major party candidates for U.S. Senate are required to file 2,000 certified signatures by March 17, 2014.

Merton G. Henry, Collins for Senator Co-Chairman, credited a strong volunteer effort for the early completion of the signature gathering process.  “Volunteers in all 16 counties collected signatures in communities across the state,” said Henry.  “This process is an early test of our field organization.  The fact that the task was completed so quickly, and before we have even opened a campaign office, shows the strength of our volunteer network.  We were pleased with the tremendous response and Senator Collins truly appreciates the work that her volunteers put in on this effort,” concluded Henry.

In 2008, Senator Collins was reelected to the Senate with 62-percent of the vote. She won 97% of Maine’s 498 cities and towns and all of Maine’s 16 counties.
