BREAKING: AARP DISTANCES ITSELF FROM FALSE TV AD ATTACKING COLLINS, SUPPORTING GIDEON

Members of the press: We wanted to make sure you saw the following statement from AARP distancing itself from yet another false ad from Sara Gideon’s allies.

From AARP:

“AARP Maine State Director, Lori Parham, released the following statement today in response to a citation of AARP in a Women Vote! political ad targeting U.S. Senator Susan Collins of Maine.

Said Parham:

“AARP did not authorize or participate in the production of the advertisement targeting Senator Collins. AARP has a proud 34-year history of non-partisan voter engagement and does not endorse or oppose candidates, nor does AARP make contributions to political campaigns or candidates. We look forward to hearing more from the candidates regarding their plans to protect Social Security and Medicare.””

The ad in question is paid for by Women Vote! PAC, a Democratic super PAC that is funded, in large part, by Chuck Schumer’s Senate Majority PAC. The ad refers to Senator Collins’ support of tax reform and claims “AARP confirms Collins corporate tax giveaway will mean dramatic cuts to Medicare…”  As the Washington Post’s independent Fact Checker declared in August 2019… that claim is FALSE.
